INTRODUCTION
Dominion is God’s original mandate for mankind. When He created Adam and Eve, He gave them authority to rule over all creation. This was not just physical authority but also spiritual dominion over the forces of darkness. However, through sin, humanity lost this dominion, but Jesus Christ restored it through His death and resurrection.
Many believers today live beneath their God-given authority because they do not fully understand what dominion means. Dominion is not about controlling people but exercising authority over circumstances, sin, and demonic forces. It is about enforcing the will of God on earth as it is in heaven.
This teaching will explore how believers can walk in dominion and reclaim every territory the enemy has stolen.
1. DOMINION IS A DIVINE MANDATE
God originally designed man to rule and reign on earth.
a) Man Was Created to Have Dominion
God gave Adam authority over all creation (Genesis 1:26-28).
b) The Fall of Man Led to the Loss of Dominion
Through sin, Adam surrendered dominion to Satan (Romans 5:12).
c) Jesus Came to Restore Dominion
Christ’s victory on the cross broke the power of the enemy (Colossians 2:15).
d) Believers Are Seated with Christ in Authority
We are raised to reign with Him in heavenly places (Ephesians 2:6).
e) Biblical Example: Joseph’s Rise to Power (Genesis 41:39-41)
Despite being sold into slavery, God elevated Joseph to a place of dominion in Egypt.
2. DOMINION OVER SIN AND FLESH
Sin limits a believer’s ability to walk in dominion.
a) Sin Brings Bondage
Whoever commits sin is a slave to sin (John 8:34).
b) We Have Power Over Sin Through Christ
Through Jesus, sin no longer has dominion over us (Romans 6:14).
c) Walking in the Spirit Gives Victory Over the Flesh
The Spirit helps us overcome sinful desires (Galatians 5:16).
d) Renewing the Mind Helps in Overcoming Sin
Transformation comes through the renewal of the mind (Romans 12:2).
e) Biblical Example: Daniel Refused to Defile Himself (Daniel 1:8)
Despite being in a foreign land, Daniel maintained his dominion over sin.
3. DOMINION OVER SATAN AND DEMONIC FORCES
God has given believers authority over the powers of darkness.
a) Christ Has Defeated the Devil
Jesus destroyed the works of the devil (1 John 3:8).
b) We Have Authority Over Demons
Jesus gave us power to cast out devils (Luke 10:19).
c) The Blood of Jesus Grants Us Victory
Satan is overcome by the blood of the Lamb (Revelation 12:11).
d) The Word of God Is a Weapon Against the Enemy
Jesus used the Word to defeat Satan (Matthew 4:4-10).
e) Biblical Example: Paul Cast Out a Spirit of Divination (Acts 16:16-18)
Paul exercised dominion by commanding an evil spirit to leave a young girl.
4. DOMINION OVER CIRCUMSTANCES AND CHALLENGES
Faith enables believers to overcome life’s challenges.
a) Dominion Means Victory Over Challenges
We are more than conquerors through Christ (Romans 8:37).
b) God Has Given Us Power to Speak to Mountains
Faith moves obstacles (Mark 11:23).
c) Nothing Is Impossible for Those Who Believe
All things are possible with faith (Mark 9:23).
d) Trials Are Opportunities to Manifest Dominion
God uses challenges to display His power in us (James 1:2-3).
e) Biblical Example: Jesus Calmed the Storm (Mark 4:39)
He demonstrated dominion over nature by commanding the storm to cease.
5. HOW TO WALK IN DOMINION DAILY
Walking in dominion requires action and spiritual discipline.
a) Know Your Identity in Christ
You must recognise your position as a child of God (1 Peter 2:9).
b) Live a Life of Holiness
Sin weakens dominion; holiness strengthens it (2 Timothy 2:21).
c) Walk in Faith and Not Fear
Fear hinders dominion, but faith empowers it (2 Timothy 1:7).
d) Use the Power of Prayer and the Word
Prayer and the Word are weapons of dominion (Ephesians 6:17-18).
e) Biblical Example: Joshua Commanded the Sun to Stand Still (Joshua 10:12-14)
Joshua exercised dominion by stopping the sun through prayer and faith.
CONCLUSION
God’s will is for every believer to walk in dominion. He has given us authority over sin, demonic forces, circumstances, and challenges. However, dominion is not automatic—it must be exercised through faith, obedience, and a deep understanding of God's Word.
As you walk in dominion, remember that your authority is not for selfish gain but to advance God’s kingdom. Take charge, resist the enemy, and rule in every area of your life through the power of Jesus Christ.
