Description: Extraordinary faith that trusts God beyond limits commands His attention and produces supernatural results.
INTRODUCTION
Faith is the currency of the Kingdom of God. It is the force that connects human need to divine provision. While ordinary faith achieves ordinary results, great faith moves God and causes Him to intervene in remarkable ways. In Luke 7:1-10, we see a Roman centurion whose faith astonished Jesus Himself, demonstrating that faith transcends nationality, status, and circumstance.
The centurion understood authority, both earthly and divine. He recognised that Jesus could command healing even from a distance, and he approached with humility, acknowledging his unworthiness. This teaches that faith is not just belief; it is trust in God’s power to act, regardless of human limitations.
This passage challenges believers to cultivate a faith that amazes God. Such faith is bold, humble, unwavering, and persistent. When God encounters it, supernatural breakthroughs are inevitable.
1. HUMBLE FAITH IS REMARKABLE
True faith is rooted in humility, not pride or entitlement.
a) Acknowledging Need (Luke 7:4-5)
The centurion sent elders to Jesus, admitting his servant’s helplessness. Humble recognition of need opens the door for divine intervention.
b) Understanding Authority (Luke 7:8)
He recognised Jesus’ spiritual authority to command healing, displaying wisdom and insight.
c) Dependence on God (Proverbs 3:5-6)
Humility aligns the heart to trust God rather than self-effort.
d) Honour Through Humility (James 4:6)
God gives grace to the humble; pride hinders favour.
Biblical Example: Moses interceded humbly for Israel despite their rebellion, and God responded to his faith (Exodus 32:11-14).
2. FAITH BELIEVES WITHOUT LIMITATION
Great faith trusts God beyond visible circumstances.
a) Trusting from a Distance (Luke 7:6-7)
The centurion believed Jesus could heal his servant without being physically present.
b) Overcoming Circumstantial Barriers (Hebrews 11:1)
Faith acts on promises, not conditions.
c) Expecting the Impossible (Mark 9:23)
Great faith refuses to be limited by logic or human reasoning.
d) Confidence in God’s Word (Romans 4:20-21)
Abraham’s faith rested fully on God’s promises, regardless of impossibilities.
Biblical Example: The woman with the issue of blood received healing simply by touching Jesus’ garment (Mark 5:25-34).
3. FAITH ACCOMPANIED BY HUMILITY AND OBEDIENCE BRINGS RESULTS
Faith must be paired with a submissive spirit and readiness to obey God.
a) Submitting to God’s Will (Luke 7:6-7)
The centurion acknowledged his unworthiness, demonstrating submission.
b) Acting in Alignment with God’s Authority (John 14:12)
Faith requires alignment with God’s power and principles.
c) Demonstrating Confidence Through Action (James 2:17)
Faith without action is dead; it must manifest in trust-filled steps.
d) Inspiring Divine Attention (Luke 7:9)
Faith that honours God in humility captures His attention and amazement.
Biblical Example: Peter stepped out of the boat in faith when Jesus called him to walk on water (Matthew 14:28-31).
4. FAITH THAT AMAZES GOD IS REWARDED SUPERNATURALLY
When faith exceeds human expectation, God responds with extraordinary results.
a) Immediate Response (Luke 7:10)
Jesus healed the servant at that very hour. Faith prompts swift divine action.
b) Divine Approval (Luke 7:9)
God marvels at faith that goes beyond superficial belief.
c) Expanding Influence (Matthew 8:13)
Faith impacts not only the believer but also others around them.
d) Eternal Significance (Hebrews 11:6)
Faith pleases God and unlocks eternal rewards beyond natural understanding.
Biblical Example: Daniel’s unwavering faith in God preserved him in the lions’ den and brought glory to God (Daniel 6:16-23).
CONCLUSION
Great faith is marked by humility, boldness, and unwavering trust in God’s power. Like the centurion, a believer who steps beyond human reasoning and places full confidence in Christ attracts divine attention and experiences supernatural breakthroughs.
Your faith today can open doors that seem impossible, command miracles, and bring God’s glory into your circumstances. Cultivate faith that amazes God, and watch Him respond in ways that leave you and others astonished.
