THE GOD WHO RENDERS THE ENEMY POWERLESS

THE GOD WHO RENDERS THE ENEMY POWERLESS

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

"And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross; and having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it."

Supporting Texts: Exodus 14:13-14, Psalm 46:1-3, Isaiah 54:17, Luke 10:19, 1 John 4:4

INTRODUCTION:
In the battles of life, there are forces—both seen and unseen—that rise against the people of God. These battles may come through human opposition, spiritual attacks, or even personal struggles within our own hearts. However, the confidence of a believer rests in knowing that we serve a God who has never been defeated and who will never be defeated. He has all power in heaven and on earth, and He specialises in rendering the enemy powerless before His people.

When Jesus went to the cross, He did not merely die for our sins—He also stripped the devil of his power and authority over our lives. The cross was not a defeat; it was the greatest victory in history. Through His death and resurrection, He disarmed principalities and powers, exposing their weakness before the entire spiritual realm.

No matter what the enemy throws at us, it is essential to remember that God has already secured the victory. Our role is to walk in that victory with faith, obedience, and confidence, knowing that the One who fights for us will silence every adversary and destroy every plan of the enemy.

1. GOD’S POWER IS ABSOLUTE AND UNCHALLENGEABLE
The Lord’s power is limitless, and there is no force in existence that can rival Him.

a) God has no equal in strength (Isaiah 40:25-26)
He is the Creator of the heavens and the earth, the One who calls out the stars by name. No demon, power, or authority can rise to challenge Him successfully.

b) His authority extends over all creation (Psalm 24:1)
The earth and everything in it belong to Him, which means that the enemy has no legitimate claim over the life of a believer.

c) The power of God makes the plans of the enemy null and void (Job 5:12)
He frustrates the devices of the crafty, so that their hands cannot perform their enterprise.

d) God’s victories are final and unquestionable (Psalm 33:11)
His counsel stands forever, and once He declares victory, no one can reverse it.

Biblical Example: The defeat of Pharaoh and his army at the Red Sea (Exodus 14:26-28) shows how God’s power can completely crush the enemy’s ability to fight back.

2. JESUS HAS STRIPPED THE ENEMY OF HIS POWER
Through His death and resurrection, Jesus disarmed Satan and removed his ability to hold us captive.

a) The cross was a divine ambush against the enemy (1 Corinthians 2:8)
The rulers of this age did not realise that in crucifying Christ, they were sealing their own defeat.

b) Satan’s legal claim over us has been cancelled (Colossians 2:14)
Every accusation and condemnation that stood against us was nailed to the cross and removed forever.

c) We now have authority over all the power of the enemy (Luke 10:19)
Jesus has given us the power to trample on serpents and scorpions and to overcome every force of darkness.

d) The enemy’s greatest weapon—death—has been destroyed (Hebrews 2:14)
Through His death, Jesus destroyed the one who had the power of death, that is, the devil.

Biblical Example: David’s victory over Goliath (1 Samuel 17:50-51) is a picture of how God removes the strength of the enemy and exposes his weakness.

3. GOD FIGHTS FOR HIS PEOPLE AND WINS ON THEIR BEHALF
The believer’s security is rooted in the fact that God does not abandon His children in the heat of battle.

a) God takes ownership of our battles (Exodus 14:14)
When He steps into the fight, the outcome is guaranteed.

b) God delivers His people from overwhelming odds (2 Chronicles 20:15)
He can bring victory without the need for human strength or weapons.

c) God’s presence terrifies and confuses the enemy (Deuteronomy 28:7)
The enemy may come in one way but will flee in seven different directions.

d) God uses the enemy’s own plans against him (Esther 7:9-10)
The very trap set for the righteous becomes the downfall of the wicked.

Biblical Example: The victory of Jehoshaphat’s army without lifting a sword (2 Chronicles 20:21-24) shows that when God fights, the enemy is left powerless.

CONCLUSION:
The God we serve is not only mighty—He is undefeated and undefeatable. From Genesis to Revelation, the testimony of Scripture is clear: every enemy of God’s people ultimately falls. The battles you face today are no exception; they are opportunities for God to show His power and render the enemy powerless before you.

Do not fear, do not panic, and do not give up. Stand firm in the knowledge that your God has gone ahead of you, stripped the enemy of his strength, and secured your victory. Your role is to walk in faith, declare His promises, and watch the enemy’s plans collapse before your eyes.
