UNMOVABLE IN THE STORMS OF LIFE

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: 1 Corinthians 15:58

Supporting Texts: Matthew 7:24-27, Isaiah 43:2, Psalm 46:1-3, Job 14:7-9

INTRODUCTION:
Life is not without its storms. Every believer will face seasons of trials, difficulties, and fierce opposition. These storms may come in the form of financial troubles, health issues, persecution, betrayal, or personal loss. However, the Word of God assures us that we are not to be moved by what we see or feel, but to stand firm in faith.

The strength of a building is revealed during the storm. In the same way, the depth of a believer’s faith is tested during turbulent seasons. The difference between collapse and stability is not in the absence of the storm but in the foundation upon which one stands. Jesus taught this clearly in Matthew 7:24–27.

To be unmovable is not to deny the storm, but to withstand it. This teaching will show us how to stay rooted, unshaken, and triumphant no matter what life throws at us.

1. BE ROOTED IN GOD’S WORD
The Word of God is our sure foundation in stormy seasons.

a) Build your life on the Word, not emotions
Emotions fluctuate, but the Word of God remains constant (Matthew 7:24-25).

b) Meditate on the Word daily
Meditation strengthens your inner man to resist fear and doubt (Joshua 1:8).

c) Speak the Word boldly in the face of challenges
Jesus overcame the enemy by declaring “It is written” (Matthew 4:4-10).

d) Obey the Word without compromise
Obedience positions you for divine backing (James 1:22-25).

Biblical Example: Jesus calming the storm by His Word (Mark 4:35-41)

2. DEVELOP A STRONG PRAYER LIFE
Prayer keeps your spirit in tune with heaven’s frequency.

a) Pray without ceasing
Constant prayer keeps your spiritual atmosphere charged (1 Thessalonians 5:17).

b) Prayer releases strength in weak moments
Jesus prayed in Gethsemane and was strengthened (Luke 22:44)

c) Storms respond to authoritative prayers
Elijah prayed and stopped rain, then prayed again and it returned (James 5:17–18).

d) Prayer brings peace in chaos
The peace of God guards our hearts through prayer (Philippians 4:6-7).

Biblical Example: Daniel praying consistently in Babylon (Daniel 6:10-23)

3. STAY PLANTED IN THE HOUSE OF GOD

Your connection to a godly community is vital for your stability.

a) The church is a shelter and source of encouragement
We draw strength from fellowship with other believers (Hebrews 10:25).

b) Isolation makes believers vulnerable
Two are better than one; they help each other stand (Ecclesiastes 4:9–10).

c) Corporate worship invites God’s presence
God inhabits the praises of His people (Psalm 22:3).

d) Spiritual oversight provides covering
Pastors are shepherds that guide and protect the flock (Jeremiah 3:15).

Biblical Example: The early church surviving persecution together (Acts 4:23-31)

4. TRUST IN GOD’S FAITHFULNESS
Knowing that God is with you helps you endure.

a) God has promised never to forsake you
He is present in the fire and the flood (Isaiah 43:2).

b) Trials cannot destroy God’s plans for you
All things work together for your good (Romans 8:28).

c) God’s grace is sufficient for every storm
His strength is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

d) He will reward steadfastness
Those who endure will receive the crown of life (James 1:12).

Biblical Example: Job’s restoration after intense trials (Job 42:10–12)

5. KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS
Focus on Christ keeps you steady when everything else is shaking.

a) Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith
Looking unto Him helps us endure (Hebrews 12:2).

b) When you fix your eyes on Jesus, you rise above the storm
Peter walked on water as long as he focused on Christ (Matthew 14:28-30).

c) Jesus is greater than your storm
He has overcome the world (John 16:33).

d) Christ's presence brings confidence
If God be for you, who can be against you? (Romans 8:31).

Biblical Example: Stephen seeing Jesus even while being stoned (Acts 7:55-60)

CONCLUSION:
Storms are inevitable, but collapse is optional. The believer who is rooted in the Word, prayerful, committed to fellowship, anchored in God’s faithfulness, and focused on Jesus will remain unmovable even in the fiercest seasons. God is not looking for perfect people, but for grounded people who trust Him in all things.

You were not designed to sink—you are built to stand. As you remain steadfast, you will not only survive the storms but rise above them and become a testimony of God’s sustaining grace.
