THE GOD WHO LIFTS THE HUMBLE

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: James 4:10

Supporting Texts: 1 Peter 5:6; Psalm 147:6; Luke 1:52; Proverbs 3:34

INTRODUCTION:
In a world that celebrates self-promotion, God calls His people to a life of humility. The Bible reveals that divine promotion is not for the proud or self-sufficient, but for those who bow low in reverence and submission to God. True greatness in the Kingdom of God begins with humility.
God is not against lifting people, but He resists the proud and gives grace to the humble. When a person chooses humility, they qualify for God's supernatural elevation. It is not man who lifts the humble; it is God who does, and His lifting is lasting and glorious.

1. GOD RESISTS THE PROUD BUT EXALTS THE HUMBLE

a) Divine resistance to pride
God sets Himself against the proud and frustrates their efforts (James 4:6).

b) Grace is for the lowly
The humble attract divine favour and help (Proverbs 3:34).

c) Humility is a gateway to honour
Before honour comes humility (Proverbs 15:33).

d) The proud are brought low
God has a pattern of dethroning the arrogant (Isaiah 2:11).

Biblical Example: King Nebuchadnezzar was humbled until he acknowledged God's supremacy, then restored and lifted (Daniel 4:28-37).

2. HUMILITY PREPARES YOU FOR DIVINE PROMOTION

a) God lifts those who wait on Him
Humility involves dependence on God, which leads to lifting (1 Peter 5:6).

b) The humble are teachable and obedient
God promotes those who submit to His will (Psalm 25:9).

c) Promotion comes from above
It is not men but God who promotes (Psalm 75:6-7).

d) God watches the humble closely
He is near to those of a contrite heart (Psalm 34:18).

Biblical Example: Joseph was lifted from the prison to the palace because he remained humble under God’s hand (Genesis 41:39-44).

3. HUMILITY ATTRACTS DIVINE PRESENCE AND POWER

a) God dwells with the humble
His presence abides with the lowly in spirit (Isaiah 57:15).

b) Power flows through the surrendered
God uses those who do not depend on themselves (2 Corinthians 12:9).

c) The humble receive divine instructions
God reveals His secrets to them (Psalm 25:9).

d) Authority is given to the humble
They are entrusted with great influence (Philippians 2:8-9).

Biblical Example: Moses was very meek, and God used him mightily (Numbers 12:3).

4. GOD REWARDS HUMILITY IN DUE TIME

a) There is a divine timing for lifting
God promotes at the set time (1 Peter 5:6).

b) He never forgets the lowly in heart
Their season of recognition will come (Psalm 113:7-8).

c) The humble are positioned for honour
God delights in elevating them (Luke 14:11).

d) Their testimony becomes a divine reference
God makes them signs and wonders (Isaiah 8:18).

Biblical Example: Mary was a humble virgin, yet God chose her to birth the Saviour (Luke 1:48-52).

CONCLUSION:
Humility is not weakness but strength under control. Those who humble themselves under God's mighty hand will experience divine lifting in due time. It is the humble that God trusts with His glory and power.
Let us therefore reject pride in every form and pursue humility, for God’s promotion does not come by pushing ourselves forward but by bowing low before Him.

PRAYER POINTS:
1. Lord, help me to walk in true humility all the days of my life.
2. Father, deliver me from every trace of pride and self-exaltation.
3. O God, lift me in due time as I submit myself under Your mighty hand.
4. Let Your grace rest upon me and distinguish me among men.
5. Lord, dwell with me and lead me daily in Your presence.
6. Break every structure of arrogance in my heart, O Lord.
7. Grant me the wisdom to remain teachable and lowly in spirit.
8. O God, promote me from obscurity to visibility for Your glory.
9. Let the spirit of meekness rest upon me like it rested on Moses.
10. I receive the anointing for supernatural promotion through humility.

GOD’S WORD FOR YOU TODAY:

1. You shall not remain low; the hand of the Lord will lift you as you walk in humility!

2. Where men ignored you, God will honour you because you have chosen to be humble before Him!
