DEALING WITH EVIL LABELS

DEALING WITH EVIL LABELS

By Rev. Samuel Arimoro

Main Text: Isaiah 62:2-4
Supporting Texts: Colossians 2:14-15, Zechariah 3:1-5, 2 Corinthians 5:17.

INTRODUCTION:
Evil labels are negative identities placed upon individuals by the enemy, society, or circumstances. These labels can hinder a person’s destiny and prevent them from fulfilling God’s purpose. However, God’s Word assures us that He can remove every evil label and replace it with His divine identity and purpose. In this sermon, we explore the causes of evil labels, their effects, and how to break free from them through Christ.

1. UNDERSTANDING EVIL LABELS

a) What Are Evil Labels?
Evil labels are false identities or accusations that contradict God’s Word over a person’s life (Zechariah 3:1-2).

b) Causes of Evil Labels
Sin: Disobedience to God can result in condemnation (Romans 6:23).

Family Background: Generational curses and ancestral ties can label individuals negatively (Exodus 20:5).

Life Circumstances: Challenges, failures, or mistakes can create labels of shame and failure (1 Samuel 1:6-7).

The Enemy’s Accusations: Satan is the accuser of believers, seeking to label them (Revelation 12:10).

c) Types of Evil Labels

Labels of failure
Labels of shame
Labels of rejection
Labels of curses and setbacks

d) Biblical Example: The Prodigal Son (Luke 15:11-24). He was labeled as a failure and outcast but was restored by the father’s love.

2. THE DANGERS OF EVIL LABELS

a) They Hinder Divine Destiny
Evil labels can keep individuals from walking in God’s purpose (Judges 6:15).

b) They Cause Shame and Fear
These labels bring emotional and spiritual bondage (Isaiah 54:4).

c) They Attract Limitations
Evil labels restrict progress and bring setbacks (1 Chronicles 4:9).

d) They Empower the Enemy
Evil labels give the enemy a foothold to operate (Ephesians 4:27).

e) Biblical Example: Jabez (1 Chronicles 4:9-10). His name (sorrow) limited him until he cried out to God.

3. BREAKING FREE FROM EVIL LABELS

a) Come to Jesus for Redemption
Jesus is the only one who can break every evil label (2 Corinthians 5:17).

b) Believe in God’s Promises
Declare God’s Word over your life to nullify evil labels (Jeremiah 29:11).

c) Renounce Every Evil Agreement
Use the authority of Christ to renounce every negative word or covenant (Matthew 18:18).

d) Receive a New Identity in Christ
God replaces every evil label with His divine identity (Isaiah 62:4).

e) Biblical Example: Bartimaeus (Mark 10:46-52). Known as "blind Bartimaeus," he received his sight and a new identity through Jesus.

4. GOD’S PROMISE TO REPLACE EVIL LABELS

a) From Forsaken to Favoured
Isaiah 62:4 shows God’s ability to change your name and situation.

b) From Condemned to Righteous
Colossians 2:14-15 declares that Jesus blotted out the charges against us.

c) From Rejected to Accepted
Ephesians 1:6 assures us of acceptance in the Beloved.

d) From Cursed to Blessed
Galatians 3:13-14 reveals that Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law.

e) Biblical Example: Rahab (Joshua 2:1-21, Matthew 1:5). A prostitute by label, she became part of Jesus’ lineage through faith.

5. WALKING IN YOUR NEW IDENTITY

a) Renew Your Mind With God’s Word
Romans 12:2 reminds us to transform our minds through the Word.

b) Speak Life Over Yourself
Proverbs 18:21 highlights the power of our words to shape our identity.

c) Resist the Enemy’s Lies
James 4:7 instructs believers to resist the devil and his accusations.

d) Stay Rooted in Christ
Colossians 2:7 reminds us to be established in Christ, our true identity.

e) Biblical Example: Peter (John 21:15-19). Jesus restored Peter from the label of "denier" to "shepherd of His flock."

CONCLUSION:
